Communicating Responsible Use
Dr. Guillermo Cal, executive director of CropLife Argentina, discusses the role of agrochemical companies in communicating their responsible use techniques to their communities. Cal shared his thoughts with Farm Chemicals International (FCI) editor David Frabotta during the FCI Trade Summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
 
Agrochemical products study shows there is competitiveness in El Salvador
The consulting company Punto Final concluded a study about the pesticide market in El Salvador and found that there is enough variety of products available for the farmers to protect their crops from pests, weeds and diseases. There is no concentration.

An Increase in Biotechnological Crops in 2009

The annual report by the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA) stated that the area of biotechnological crops increased 7% last year. The year 2009 finished with 134 million hectares with genetically modified crops around the world.

In Latin America, 10 countries have adopted biotechnology. Brazil is at the top of the list with 21.4 million hectares, increasing 35 % in the area of biotechnological crops (soy, corn and cotton) in 2009. Costa Rica and Chile became part of the list given that last year they adopted biotechnology for the seed export market.
